Last night saw some very interesting results in primaries throughout the country. With only one real important exception in Blanche Lincoln (D) AR, it was a clear message that incumbents were unpopular. Another interesting result is the fact that the big primary winners were female and conservative. I am also intrigued with the effect of Sarah Palin’s effect in the campaigns of those she supported.
Now I will admit that both Whitman and Fiorina are California Republicans, and are not necessarily as conservative as others are in the GOP. However, Fiorina along with candidates like Sharon Angle, Nikki Haley are all Tea Party favorites that Sarah Palin supported and who have won their primaries. In the case of Carly Fiorina she won over another Tea Party favorite supported by South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint.
There is no doubt in my mind that this election season is a referendum on the Obama Administration as well as both houses of Congress. Figures such as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, (D) NV and Senator Barbara Boxer (D) CA will certainly have their hands full with Palin backed Angle and Fiorina. In addition to these contending opponents, incumbent Democrats will also have to explain their unpopular support of Obama and his agendas.
While the Tea Party may be a very vocal as well as a very visible political force they are by no means organized. There is no real main arm of the Tea Party, but a loose knit coalition of Tea Party’s around the country. They often see things pretty much the same way, but not always, which will sometimes create divisions within the movement. California primary Fiorina versus DeVore or more accurately Palin versus DeMint is a prime example.
It appears to me that Sarah Palin is certainly a driving force, in both the Republican Party and the Tea Party movement and wields tremendous star power amongst the blue collar conservatives. The fact that she is also willing to go against the GOP base and Tea Party candidates she does not support has not appeared to damage her credibility within either group. There is definitely evidence that you have a better than even chance of winning at least within your own party if Sarah Palin picks you to support.
Another Tea Party and Palin backed candidate Terry Branstad won the GOP Party nomination yesterday for the Governors race in Iowa against incumbent Democrat Chet Culver in November and is a race to watch. It is said that Iowa is one of the states that sets the tone for election politics so we will see if they see eye to eye with Sarah Palin on Terry Branstad.
I will tell you before I go that I am not a Republican but an NPA (No Party Affiliation), I am also a fiscal conservative as well as a social conservative with one or two exceptions. I do like Sarah Palin and agree with her political views 99.998% of the time. I will definitely support her candidates with one exception and that is Senator John McCain (R) AZ.
I hope you all have a great day and I will see you all again soon my friends. From Simple Man Politics CIAO4NOW!!!!!
Soooo…..what do you all think about Sarah Palin resigning from the Governorship of the great state of Alaska? I am sure you all have some opinion about it because every talking head, moron, and know-it-all in politics and the media seems to have at least one opinion about it. Hell I guarantee you I have at least one opinion and I will for sure air them out here today.
I find it amazing that ever since Sarah announced her decision to resign last Friday that there has been a concerted effort by not only the press, but both sides of the political spectrum to put their own spin on her resignation. As usual both the left and their biased media allies have sought to further denigrate this fine lady, but what is astounding is that members within her own party are attacking her also.
I for one cannot personally blame Mrs. Palin for her decision to quit whatever it may be, because the honest truth is that no one knows for sure why but her. After the attempts at assassinating her character, assaulting her son Trig, and going after her daughter Bristol like a pack of rabid dogs any normal person would not be surprised. Of course Letterman proved they are all animals with his transparent attempt at going after Willow recently as well.
However I personally don’t think that these are the reasons for Sarah Palin’s supposedly sudden resignation. After her sudden and meteoric rise to stardom in the Republican Party in the last presidential election, I think she realizes that she needs to move onward and upward to remain a viable entity in the political arena. To do this she needs to maintain her exposure in the national media and politics of her party.
I feel that she may be eyeing a run for the senate seat coming up in the mid-term elections in her home state of Alaska. I also think that as a superstar with the Republican Party base that she may also campaign for some republican candidates seeking re-election or election in both houses of congress in the mid-terms too. I don’t see a potential White House run before 2016 if at all though.
I am sure though that no matter what Sarah decides to do in the future it will be something that she wants to do, and not something someone else thinks she should do. I also hope that whatever that something is it is productive, positive, and makes her happy as well. I am equally sure that whatever that something is that it will drive the haters in both parties and the media crazy and I LOVE that.
One final thought on this subject before I go and that is that no matter whether you love this woman or hate this woman, she definitely keeps politics alive, interesting, and edgy. This results in people asking questions of our elected officials and so will keep our citizens a little more well informed.
I hope you all have a great day tomorrow and I will be back again soon, CIAO4NOW!!!!!

Republicans Have Become the Lesser of Two Evils: The Conservative Base is Angry
2 comments Posted by Joy at 4:24 PM
Hello to all the readers of SimpleManPolitics. As requested by Tim, your fearless blogger, I'll be posting from time to time here to give him a break as he starts his other blog. I'm honored to have the opportunity to contribute, and I look forward to hearing back from all the readers, whether you agree or disagree with me.
Today as I was doing my customary research, I came across an interesting article at Townhall.com by Congressman Thomas Price. Essentially Price felt he had an idea of what was wrong with the Republican Party, and went on to give a list of things he felt needed to be changed. However, his list was so vague that there was no substance to it at all. Typical political BS if you ask me.
What really got my attention though was the many comments left in reply to his writing - all from angry conservatives unhappy with the Republican Party. You see, the theme that many Republicans seen to be singing lately is the theme of becoming moderate, moving to the left, and making change. Well, the conservatives aren't happy about this.
Many conservatives are leaving the party and some find themselves only voting Republican because they feel the Republican choice is the lesser of two evils. You'll probably be shocked to find out that studies show 1 out of 5 "self proclaimed" conservatives actually voted for Obama. They hated John McCain that much that they'd vote for a leftist Democrat - Barack Obama. Now that's scary and a sad place for the Republican Party to be.
Simply take a look at the past 10 years in the Republican Party. It's no longer so conservative. The party continues to move towards the left. Too many Republican senators and representatives vote based on popularity and concerns of re-election instead of voting based on the principals that the Republican Party stands for. Those who are truly concerned about the people of America will not be as worried about re-election as they are doing what is right for the people.
The Republican Party didn't lose the last election because of the Democrats - they lost because of their own party. People no longer have a reason to vote Republican. Conservatives are no longer happy with the platforms that Republican leaders are running on. When you have "centrists" like John McCain running with a staunch conservative like Sarah Palin, it just doesn't work out. The people didn't trust John McCain because he wasn't a staunch conservative. This was the disaster that lost an election to the most liberal politician in Washington - Obama.
Listen up Republican leaders. It's time to actually walk the walk. You can claim to be Republicans, but look at the decisions you make. Right now there are republicans in Congress blindly following along with the crowd. Take a look at Orin Hatch, who decided to confirm Geithner in spite of the tax fraud say that he was "qualified" for the job.
Now, you may be wondering why I, a Republican, am writing negatively about the Republican Party. Well, that's because I call it like I see it folks. I'm not blind. I see the problems in the party. Who knows, if it doesn't change, I may be out there finding a new party myself. There are many conservatives out there looking for a new party that is "truly" conservative. There are actually some choices out there, such as the American First Party, which is beginning to grow.
Now I don't have all the answers here, but I can definitely see when a party is dying. Unless true conservatism is truly held up once again in the Republican Party, I believe it will die. Perhaps Michael Steele, the new Chairman of the party will make a difference. We can only wait and see. Until then though, Republican leaders better walk carefully. There's a mob of angry conservatives out there.
Well folks its Friday, which means we all have survived another week of the Grind so T.G.I.F. This week has seen some important political decisions made both here and around the world. So today this blog is just going to recap what I think are the important topics that have seen some action.
Obama stimulus Package and Congressional Response:
Yesterday Obama publicly addressed the subject of his economic stimulus package citing dire consequences if we don’t get it passed as soon as he takes office. He really didn’t really go into specifics about most of his economic plan though. Apparently the Dems on the hill were listening to what little details he did give away, and they do not appear to be very happy with him about some of his tax cuts, stating those feelings publicly. I think they are worried they won’t have enough of our money to spend if they don’t tax us to death even more.
UN Ceasefire Resolution and outcome:
A couple of day ago the UN Security Council voted on a cease fire resolution for Israel and Hamas, Which the US abstained from voting for or against, and which Israel and Hamas soundly rejected. This was something that I was not surprised by, since I believe that as long as Hamas exists there will be no peace in the Palestinian territories.
Burris appointment and likely outcome:
Early this week after the Senate refused to seat Roland Burris who was appointed by embattled Governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois to fill Obama’s vacant Senate seat because the Illinois Secretary of State didn’t certify Blago’s signature, filed suit in the Illinois State Supreme Court to get a judgment ordering the Secretary of state to do so. It looks like there may be a response from the court sometime today or early next week, and Burris will be seated. I personally think the signature should have been certified when Blago made the appointment, and Burris seated immediately.
Blago impeachment:
Today the Illinois House of Representatives impeached Governor Blagojevich. However the Illinois State Senate will not meet on this subject until after the Presidential inauguration, so Illinois is stuck with Blago for a couple of more weeks.
Obama appointments:
Also today Obama announced the last three picks for his National Security team. He appointed former Admiral Blair to fill the post of National Intelligence director, which I think is a very good pick. Admiral Blair has excellent credentials in the intelligence community.
Obama also appointed Leon Panetta to the post of CIA Director, an appointment I am not to sure about. While Panetta did have access to high level Intel briefings during his stint as White House Chief of staff under Bill Clinton, he has no practical experience within the Intel community.
Obama rounded out his national security and intelligence picks by appointing National Counterterrorism Center Director John Brennan to be his top terrorism advisor on the National Security Council. I think this is definitely the right man for the job.
Palin Response to Caroline Kennedy Seeking Vacant Clinton Senate Seat:
Apparently Alaska Governor and former Republican VP Candidate Sarah Palin feel’s that Caroline Kennedy is getting softer press treatment in her pursuit of Hillary Clintons now vacant New York Senate Seat than she did in her GOP run for VP in the 2008 national election, due to Kennedy’s social class. How can Palin be so surprised I’m not the Democratic Party is built on elitist class distinctions, at least on the east coast.
Well that’s all of it for this week my friends I hope it is enough to keep you thinking for the weekend. I will be back next week with more political news and analysis for all of you. Until then have a wonderful weekend, CIAO4NOW!!!!!

A Good Coversation, Healthy Debate, And A differing Opinion
1 comments Posted by simpleman at 7:07 AM
Hello all my friends and loyal readers out there, once again it’s time for some more Simple Man Politics. As you know there are a lot of serious things going on in our country right now, and almost all of them have something to do with or are directly involved in politics. However I am not going to write about anything that is currently going on or has been in the 24 hour news cycle for the last few days. Instead I’m going to write about a conversation I had with a friend of mine yesterday.
Now to say that this gentleman is a friend of mine is a gross understatement. He and I go way back, and I mean back in the day ya know. He’s a real bro of mine and one of the few and I mean very few that I will say is the same to me as a brother, maybe even more so. He is a very well educated man. He is an anesthesiologist with a very prominent hospital in south Florida. He is a family man with a great wife and two beautiful children. His political views are a little more liberal than my own also, but I value his friendship, intelligence, and opinion above 99.998% of the entire population of the known world.
With all of that said lets talk about the conversation him and I had. This conversation started like most of them do between us. Hey dude what’s up, how’s the kids, how’s the wife, how’s work, are your ready for Christmas. You know the normal stuff friends always ask each other when the pick up the phone and call, especially around the holidays. Then he got around to talking to me about my blog, and that’s when things got interesting.
We started out by talking about a recent blog that I did concerning Obama’s legitimacy to hold the office of President with regard to the question of his citizenship. As you know the SCOTUS is due to hear a couple of cases involving this subject that question his citizenship. One of these cases was before the Supreme Court on the 5th of this month or last Friday. I told him that there is some evidence and legitimate concern about his citizenship, but that I didn’t think Obama was dumb enough to run for President and not be a natural born citizen of the United States.
Now we both agreed that it is time for a change in this country. We also agreed that a lot of the problems had to do directly with the politicians including the very same ones who claim to be riding to our rescue now. We even agreed that not all of the problems we are experiencing can be laid at George W, Bush’s feet. Some of the Dem’s are just as much at fault. People like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd just to name a couple of them.
All of what we had discussed up till this point is not why I’m writing this today. What prompted this particular post was the subject of the VP candidate on the Republican ticket Sarah Palin. In his opinion he felt that Sarah Palin was not an effective VP candidate and that she came off less than as intelligent as she needed to be. He also told me that that was the opinion of some of his conservative friends in south Florida as well.
He also said that he believed that her choosing to have her Downs Syndrome child was not really a choice as she doesn’t believe in a woman’s right choose, which I had claimed was a choice. It was her choice to have the belief that abortion is the wrong answer. I also informed him that her policy on abortion was no except in cases of rape, incest, or health of the birth mother, and no to partial birth abortion. He stated that he had not heard that. However that is her policy unless she has changed it since the election.
What I want you all to do is to consider the question of Sarah Palin’s effectiveness and intelligence in the 08 national election. I’m putting up a poll on this post and I would like you all to participate please. I am really very curious about how my readers viewed her performance, and the poll will run for a whole week. Also feel free to leave a comment if you so desire. I always post any comment that is directly connected to the blog/subject and is serious.
Have an awesome day and I will be back again soon, CIAO4NOW!!!!!

Here we are my friends on the third day after the election and everyone is waiting for the next shoe to drop. Whether it is on the economy, the current situation with Russia flexing its muscles, or Whether or not it is Sarah Palins fault that John McCain lost the election.
That’s right I said whether Sarah Palin cost John McCain the election. Can you believe that with all of the really important things that should be being discussed this is the best that the media could come up with for the last three days? At the heart of this seems to be some comments made by campaign aides about Palins knowledge of Africa as a continent, going shopping during the campaign, and being mean to the staff. According to Elaine Lafferty who is the leader of citizens for John McCain, and a Democrat, has said she has spent time with the former VP candidate on the campaign trail has said these things are patently absurd.
First of all there is no way that Sarah Palin does not know that Africa is a continent. Sarah Palin is a very smart lady. You don’t get to be Governor of a state the size of Alaska with exports to foreign countries totaling approximately Four Billion Dollars whose major trading partners are china and Japan. It should also be noted that with the schedule a VP candidate has to keep on the trail it is almost impossible to get any free time to go the department store. If she did manage to steal a few minutes for herself and do a little shopping well good for her. As far as her being mean to the staff is concerned I think she must have had problems with the idiot or idiots who leaked all of this tripe because they were screw ups and screwing up the campaign.
Now let’s be honest for a minute here. I am not in the least bit happy with the results of Tuesday night’s election. But I will tell you the truth of the matter and the truth is that it wasn’t just McCain’s campaign that lost the election it was the fact the Obama’s campaign just flat out beat them. They had the organization, money, and a get out the vote effort that was unprecedented in Presidential election history. Sure there were things that McCain might have done to make it a closer race or maybe even win but he missed every opportunity given to him and there were plenty of opportunities believe me. It wasn’t Palins fault that the election was lost it was poor management of the campaign by those who were making the decisions.
To her credit and being the classy lady that Sarah Palin is she has refused to say anything negative about John McCain or those who were involved in the campaign strategy. She knows that no good could come from engaging in such back biting or infighting and has decided to move on, go back to Alaska, and continue governing that great state. However Bill O’Reilly has offered her as much time on his show as she feels she needs to set the record straight and I think she should take him up on it. As far as the trashing of Sarah Palin is concerned I think it is all sour grapes and B.S. from people who didn’t know how to be winners. If all of this somehow dims the light on her potentially awesome political career in the GOP it will be the party’s loss.
I hope you all get out of the house, stop worrying about what can’t be changed, and have a wonderful weekend. I will see you all back here on Monday CIAO4NOW!!!!!

Hello everybody I thought i would go ahead and get today's post out early. As you know the Vice Presidential debate was on last night and this is what I'm going to discuss today so lets get started.
1st let me congratulate Gwen Ifill on a job well done I knew she would do the job of moderating the debate professionally. I thought she had a great group of questions to ask the candidates and I thought she was very fair with how she asked the questions and in how she treated the candidates so kudos to her.
With regards to Joe Biden I thought he did a very good job last night and I thought he proved that if he had to step in to the office of President of the United States he was ready to do so. I think he did a very good job of defending his tickets policies and defending Barack Obama as well. He is obviously a man with considerable experience in the arena of politics as last night proves.
As for Sarah Palin we all knew that this was to be a sort of consensus on her and her abilities to perform her duties and to step into the shoes as President should the need arise. I think she showed herself to be more than capable of performing her duties and educable enough to learn to be President if the need to do so arose. It was obvious to me and a few others I know that she is truly a Washington outsider and that was refreshing. It was very smart of her to point out that she has only been in national politics for five weeks and to say to both Biden and Ifill that she wasn't going to answer the questions the way the wanted her to but would speak directly to the people. I also think that she did a very good job of keeping McCains name in the forefront of her answers and comments.
Overall I think the debate was very well run, moderated, and showed the difference in policies between the two tickets. I also think that both candidates made statements that were not exactly true but were not serious enough to do either candidate or ticket any harm. Was there a game changer for either party in the debate last night I don't think so. In my overall view of the debate though I would have to say that the debate was a clear win for Sarah Palin and the McCain/Palin ticket. That is all I have for today.....so far. If they manage to pass a bailout bill for Wall Street I may have to comment on that. Otherwise have a grand weekend and I will see you all on Monday, CIAO4NOW!!!!!

Hello folks, I hope you all have had a good week and are looking forward to a little "you" time this weekend. Sorry I didn’t post yesterday but I had some business to take care of but it’s all good now and I’m good to go.
Today I want to talk a little bit about Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton, and partisanship. It seems that Hillary Clinton was invited to speak to an anti Iranian rally in New York City at the United Nations which is a good thing. It also seems that Sarah Palin was invited to the same rally…..also a good thing. The problem is that Hillary Clinton wasn’t told by the organizers that Sarah Palin was invited and in a fit cancelled her attendance at the rally.
This did not deter Sarah Palin from her wish to attend and speak at the event. However, in their infinite wisdom the knuckleheads who invited her over at Stop Iran Now Coalition disinvited her and removed her from the speakers list. This prompted spokes people on the republican side to say that this was done under pressure from Democratic partisans. Considering this lady could be the next Vice President it might have been a good idea to treat her with a little respect and let her speak because she might be a good person to have on your side.
While I think it is possible that some pressure was brought to bear by agents of the Democratic Party I find it highly unlikely. I just think that the folks over at Stop Iran Now are just stupid. As for Hillary Clinton dropping out I just think she didn’t want to be upstaged by Sarah Palin and that prompted her decision not partisanship.
With regard to the idea behind the rally I think it is a great idea. Iran and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are certainly a threat to Israel and if they get a nuclear weapon they will be a threat to us and our other allies as well. This most definitely should not be a partisan issue and I think both Clinton and Palin should have attended and spoke out against Iran. But now it seems the whole thing has been politicized by Clinton whether it was intended or not…how stupid.
Well that’s it for today and this week. I will see all of you next week, so have an awesome weekend, CIAO4NOW!!!!!

Good day to all of my friends out there. It’s Monday and we all know what that means…it means that it is time for another installment of your Simple Man Politics. Today’s post will be mercifully short compared to some of the marathon posts I have put up in the past, so lets get started, we’re burning daylight.
Today we are going to talk about the pre convention poll numbers and what they actually mean or should I say don’t mean. Let’s start with Barack Obama and the Democratic National Convention. After the DNC, Obama received a 5 point bounce in his poll numbers last Tuesday vaulting him out in front of McCain - 49% to McCain’s 43%. In the Gallop poll conducted by the Republican Party, Obama hit 50% for the first time in the election while McCain dropped to 42%. A 5 point convention bounce in the polls is not uncommon and was to be expected for Barack Obama.
John McCain over took Obama for the first time in the polls after the Republican National Convention according to the USA Today Gallup poll Where he received a 5 to 6 point bounce. These numbers are right in line with historical expectations. The Today’s Gallop poll includes some reporting from prior to McCain’s acceptance speech. As of Sunday Rasmussen’s daily tracking poll indicates that with the leaners included that McCain and Obama are tied at 48% and that Obama’s lead has been erased.
The Nielsen Media Research also reported that RNC earned more than 34.5 million television viewers while the DNC earned approximately 30.2 million television viewers giving the RNC 4 million more viewers than the RNC which is incredible considering the types of conventions we saw from the respective parties. The DNC was definitely the big show seemingly like the Academy Awards and the RNC was more like a big town hall meeting so you would have thought the numbers would have been reversed.
Now basically what all of this means, as far as the polls go, is that the bounces in the polls were normal and to be expected, although in McCain’s case I do believe that Sara Palin as an addition to the ticket might have done a lot for the RNC viewership and McCain’s bounce in the polls. I do believe however that as the days and weeks move toward November 4th that the race and the numbers will tighten up considerably unless one of the candidates really screws up and falls out of favor with their party base or fails to appeal to the independent vote.
That is all I have to say for now other than to tell you what you already know, and that is that you have to decide for yourself who you will support. A person who commented on one of my blogs named Gladys said correctly that if you are at least 18 years of age or new to this country then please register to vote and then VOTE!!!!! I will also be posting more often now that the conventions are done and we are inside 60 days till the election so keep your eyes peeled for more of my posts in the coming weeks. I hope you like the video to. Have a great day and CIAO4NOW!!!!!
Straight Talk and More Talk and the Conventions Have Ended
3 comments Posted by simpleman at 9:05 PMWell here we are. Its Friday again and we have made it through another week thank God!!!!! But as is usual for me on Friday I have to write about what has happened on the political scene in the last couple of days. Luckily for me we have had the end of the Republican National Convention and part one of Barack Obama’s interview with Bill O’Reilly, which was interesting I might add. On that note let’s start with Obama’s interview last night.
Yesterday Barack Obama sat down for an interview with Bill O’Reilly the host of Fox News Channels the O’Reilly Factor. The interview will be aired in four parts with part one being aired last night. The interview seemed to be on the war on terror and was remarkably well done and O’Reilly was at the top of his game and he kept Obama from trying to spin or make the interview about his talking points. They discussed everything from the Iraq war, Afghanistan, and Iran to the problem of getting Pakistan to do its share in the terror war. In the interview Obama stated that the troop surge in Iraq had worked which surprised me. He said the surge had worked not just because of the soldiers we have over there but because of the Sunni awakening in the Anbar province by way of example.
He also went on to say that we need more resources in Afghanistan to bring security and stability to that country. He was very candid about Pakistan being a part of that problem by not going after Taliban and Al Qaeda personnel and bases in the tribal areas and stated that we should withhold military aid until Pakistan does what it agreed to do instead of using our military aid to prepare for war with India.
On the subject of Iran Obama stated that if Iran obtained nuclear weapons it would be a game changer which sounds good but I have no idea what that means. He did say however that all options for dealing with Iran are on the table military, diplomatic, and economical although he did stop short of saying he would prepare for the military option citing it as inappropriate for either McCain, or himself to tip their hands has to their Presidential policies towards Iran during their campaigns for the White House.
Last evening John McCain gave his acceptance speech at the RNC. (Republican National Convention) The speech followed a video biography of John McCain narrated by actors Robert Davi and Fred Thompson. The speech was remarkably well written and delivered. The polling this morning showed that McCain’s acceptance speech had 500,000 more viewers than Obama’s and that according to the ABC tracking poll McCain and Obama are now neck and neck after McCain’s convention points bounce. John McCain really made the case for why the McCain-Palin ticket is the right choice for America in this election, citing both his military and legislative experience and Palin’s administrative experience. He also did a very good job of describing his economic and energy policies, and how he would deal with national defense and the war on terror. I don’t really believe that John McCain is out of touch with the blue collar kitchen table issues that most of the voting public are dealing with and worried about.
Also it seems that my Wednesday post was somewhat offensive to some readers and for this I apologize. However if the press and the Republicans had treated Hillary Clinton the way the Democrats had treated Sarah Palin I would have reacted the same way I did in that post. I wrote nothing in that post that was not true and I will not apologize for my words or actions. As for people’s disappointment or anger at what I said I can’t please everybody no matter how hard I try. I said what I said and there is no taking it back so it is time to move on.
In closing that is all I have for today but I will be back on Monday with political commentary and I hope you all will continue to read my blogs. and enjoy the video. Have a wonderful weekend,
ciao4now!!!!!
Hello all my friends, I hope this finds you all well. Normally I would not be posting another blog so quickly, because I have just posted one. However, with Labor Day coming up, the fact that I won’t be around, and John McCain making his Vice Presidential pick the day after the Democratic National Convention, the very convention where Barack Obama and Joe Biden accepted their party’s nomination for President and Vice President, I feel it is necessary for me to write this blog post today. Also the next post will be on Wednesday during the Republican National Convention.
Early Friday morning August 29, 2008, the McCain campaign indicated that he had made his VP pick. Some of those considered to be on the short list like Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty indicated that they were not the nominee that McCain had picked and that they had no knowledge of who the pick was. Shortly there after John McCain announced that his pick was Sarah Palin, the female Republican Governor of the state of Alaska. On the heels of the Democratic National Convention, where Barack Obama became the first black American, to be nominated by a major party for President, a party that also could have had the first woman nominee for President in Hillary Clinton, this was a major shock to all the media and political insiders. It also prompted an instant attack by Obama and company. They automatically attacked her for being to young, having no foreign policy experience, and having a special needs child instead of an abortion, how nice.
Sara Palin has not been in politics very long. She was raised in a middle class home, her parents both working for a school in Sand Point, Idaho. Her mother was the school secretary, and her father was a science teacher and track coach.
Sarah attended high school at Wasilla High School in Alaska where she played on the girl’s basketball team, and was their captain and a fierce point guard earning the nickname Sarah Barracuda. She also led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes there as well.
In 1984 Palin won the Miss Wasilla beauty contest, and finished second in the Miss Alaska pageant where she won a college scholarship. She now holds a bachelors degree in journalism from the University of Idaho, and a minor in political science.
Her career scope is pretty varied. She worked as a sports reporter for local Anchorage television stations while at the same time working as a commercial fisherwoman with her husband whom she married on August 29, 1988.
In 1992 Sarah Palin began her career in politics. Running for city council in Wasilla, as a supporter of a controversial new sales tax, she served two consecutive terms on the council. In 1996 she defeated the incumbent mayor of Wasilla where she served two consecutive terms as well. Sarah Palin was also elected President of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In 2002 Palin lost a bid for Lt Governor to Loren Leman. Palin received an appointment to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission where she served from 2003 to 2004 when she resigned in protest of fellow Alaskan Republican leaders for what she claimed was a lack of ethics. In 2006 Palin won the gubernatorial election for Governor in Alaska defeating incumbent Governor Murkowski running on a clean government campaign. On August 29, 2008, Sarah Palin was named as the Republican Vice Presidential nominee by John McCain for the party.
All in all I would say that Mrs. Palin has had a remarkable life for someone from the middle class. She is really just a normal everyday regular Joe type. Make no mistake about it though I think she is an excellent choice for VP and very dangerous to the Democratic ticket for the White House. She has a little bit of legislative experience in her city council terms, and a lot more executive experience in her two terms as a Mayor and her first term as Governor in Alaska, which I think makes her more than qualified to be in the White House with regard to executive experience versus Obama. As far as experience in commanding the military she is currently the Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard. She also has some experience with dealing with foreign nations as ships from many countries dock at Alaska’s ports. But I am sure she will leave foreign policy to John McCain who has approximately 26 years in that arena, as well as dealing with issues of the military, and intelligence. As far as the economy and the budget goes with Palin’s executive experience, and McCain’s legislative experience I think they have that very well covered.
I hope you all have a grand weekend, and an awesome labor day, and I will see you on Wednesday to talk about the Republican National Convention. I hope you guy’s enjoy the video too, CIAO4NOW!!!!!
