Simple Man Politics

Wow we all got some good new this week and just in time for the 4th of July weekend too. Apparently the anointed one President Barack Hussein, Obama has decided that his stimulus bill has done its job and is a success as well. I for one am happy to tell you that the results of the stimulus are obvious and a success at something, and King Obama said our economy is recovering nicely.

I think that this information is great except for one thing though, it is all a lie. The truth is in the job sector there were no permanent jobs saved. There were no manufacturing, tech, or other skill jobs created. Unemployment crept up to 10% for the first time since Jimmy “The Peanut Farmer” Carter was in office. Last but not least the average work week has gone for 40 hours to about 32 hours.

Banks are still not lending. Mortgages are still in wholesale foreclosure. States are not meeting payroll for even their first responders. Approximately 42 states are in financial trouble and a lot of those currently have no budgets in place. The third largest economy in the US which is California is now paying their debts with IOU’s because they have no cash.

In the midst of all of this we have also received some even better news as well. It looks like all of our utility bills are going to go up by 30% in the next two years. They are going to tax our power, (Cap and Trade) which is something Bill "Slick Willy" Clinton tried to do when he was in office. The Obama government is also going to fine people about $1000 if they do not get any healthcare coverage too.

I don’t know if I can handle much more news as good as this before the 4th of July. I mean seriously people all of this good news is so overwhelming to me even if it is all a lie. By the way how do all of you feel about it? I am just happy we have one more day of independence as a great country before we become the world’s largest banana republic.

Finally someone is going to get to see “Hillary: The Movie”, but unfortunately it is not because it has been released for public viewing, it is because it is at the center of a Supreme Court case regarding the governmental regulation of a political film as a campaign ad. The decision in this case might well determine how people can make movies and educate the people about them.

David Bossie who is a former congressional aide produced the Clinton movie as well as another film titled “Obama: The Hype Effect”. David Bossie ran into legal problems regarding both of these films because he wanted to release them during Hillary’s run for the White House and in Obama’s case during his general election campaign against John McCain. Bossie says that both of these films are about important moments in American politics, but do not tell people not to vote for either Clinton or Obama.

“Hillary: The Movie” was originally shown in eight theaters, and Bossie’s group also wanted to run ads on television and as well as show the movie on cable TV’s video-on-demand in key election states at the height of the primary season. Unfortunately federal courts cited the McCain Feingold law saying that Bossie’s ads would violate that law.

The judges went on to say that the movie was a 90 minute attack ad ruling that if the ads appeared on TV Citizens United would have to identify its financial backers and if the movie appeared on cable television not only would Citizens United have to name it’s financial backers, but they would also have to pay the costs to air the film.

This of course prompted Citizens United to appeal to the SCOTUS arguing that their film is not a political ad, but rather a documentary style film comparable to those shown by “Frontline”, “Nova”, and “60 Minutes.” Theodore Olson who represents Citizens United stated that while “Hillary” does present a critical assessment of Clinton’s political background it does not convert the movie into an appeal to vote against Senator Clinton.

Michael Moore the filmmaker who was responsible for the controversial film “Fahrenheit 9/11” also ran into problems when he tried to air his film criticizing President Bush during the run up to the Presidential election in 2004. The people responsible for throwing up the road block that stopped Moore from airing the film was none other than Citizens United. David Bossie went on to say that Moore’s recognition of the power of documentary film is what inspired him to make this film.

Forget for the moment that this movie is nothing more than political entertainment. From what I have been able to gather it also hits the viewer very hard with the truth about Hillary Clinton and one of those truths is that she is a very dangerous, ruthless, and evil political player. She is also a politically motivated creature that just like her husband Bill Clinton craves the power that comes along with being President.

She has lied over and over to the American people on everything from Whitewater to the White House travel issue. She will say whatever she has to at the moment and hope we will forget that she said it later, and that is the truth. She is certainly one of the most liberal figures in the Democratic Party and next to Obama and almost as much a socialist as well. She is the perfect political chameleon, because you never know who she is going to turn into next.

Today is the day that the SCOTUS hears the case and I really hope that the Supreme Court treads lightly when considering this case from both sides. Not only is the infringement of free speech at risk here, but so is freedom of the press and our own right to pursue certain forms of entertainment as our pursuit of happiness all of which are guaranteed us by the Constitution.

With other films currently out there like “W”, “Fahrenheit 9/11”, “Frost Nixon”, and “An American Carol” Who has the right to say this is not politically motivated entertainment or to censor it for that matter. Is there anyone out there who knows better than you what forms of entertainment you enjoy, whether it is books, music, magazines, or movies? I don’t think so, because I know exactly what I like to watch, read, or listen to better than anyone else does.

Well my friends the subject of Presidential pardons has recently come up. The reason for this sudden interest in the Presidential pardon is due to the fact the President George W, Bush has used this absolute power to pardon fourteen people and to commute prison sentences for two others so far.

The fear by the Democrats is that President Bush will use this power to pardon someone like Scooter Libby, or someone else they might consider controversial. I do believe that he should pardon the two Border Patrol agents Compean and Ramos. Those were the two who were convicted for shooting a drug smuggler in his butt as he was attempting to escape back into Mexico from the US.

Their other big fear is that he may even issue pardons to people who have not been charged with anything yet, such as cabinet members or even VP Dick Cheney. Believe me they have wanted to get Dick Cheney for years. If President Bush were to do these types of pardons they could not be overturned and the Democrats would lose their shot at some Republican red meat.

The constitution was written to make sure that Presidential pardons were absolute and could not be overturned. Let us not forget that previous Presidents have used the Presidential pardon controversially since we became a country. Let’s take a look at some of these great leaders who have used the pardon to their advantage.

Some of the Clinton pardons were notorious. Perhaps the one most everyone remembers is the pardon of Marc Rich the billionaire fugitive. It was rumored that he received his pardon due to some aggressive lobbying by his surrogates, and the fact that his estranged wife was a major Clinton contributor. Bill Clinton actually granted three hundred and ninety five pardons. However a total of one hundred and forty were issued on the last day of his Presidency including the Rich pardon. Similar charges regarding other final day pardons prompted calls for congressional hearings and action by federal prosecutors.

A couple of other Presidents who have had controversial pardons are Jimmy Carter and George H W Bush. Jimmy Carter pardoned all those who had evaded service during the Vietnam War. George H W Bush pardoned six Reagan administration officials including Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger who were involved in the Iran-Contra affair. Below is a brief description of the pardon power.

The Pardon Power:
Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution gives the president "Power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment." A reprieve reduces the severity of a punishment without removing the guilt of the person reprieved. A pardon removes both punishment and guilt.

As judicially interpreted, the president's power to grant reprieves and pardons is absolute. Individual reprieves and pardons cannot be blocked by Congress or the courts. The Framers of the Constitution envisioned the pardon power has having a narrow purpose in times of war and rebellion. The president might offer pardons to rebellious factions as an inducement for a laying down of arms and national reconciliation. Alexander Hamilton argued in the Federalist Papers (No. 74) that "in seasons of insurrection or rebellion, there are often critical moments, when a well-timed offer of pardon to the insurgents or rebels may restore the tranquility of the common wealth; and which, if suffered to pass unimproved, it may never be possible afterward to recall."

So you can see that it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about who a President pardons, because once he does a pardon that’s that. I personally hope that President Bush does do blanket pardons for himself and his cabinet including Dick Cheney. They should not have to look over their shoulders for the rest of their lives for defending our country and fighting two wars. We are luck that President Bush didn’t institute the War Powers Act, or suspend Posse Commitatus. Then there might not have even been an election in 2004 or 2008.

Hey my friends, how are you all doing today? This, thank God, is the last post of the week, and last night was the last night of the Democratic National Convention. This post is going to be dedicated to the three speeches given by Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama. I will try to make this short, sweet, and to the point. If you all are ready now, I’ll begin.

Let’s begin with Bill Clinton’s speech. I will have to admit that every time he stands up and gives a speech I am awestruck by the way he commands the stage and works the crowd. The ultimate ring master, Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus could not have put on a better show. The speech was approximately 30 minutes in length and Bill used every second of it to spread the Democrat message. He spoke about Hillary’s run for the Presidential nomination of the party and how proud he was of her. He also spoke about Obama, his character, and his qualifications to be President. He spoke to the lunch pail voters and the women voters who were Hillary’s back bone and wove for them a utopian vision with Obama and the Democrats in power. Of course there was your usual attack of the Republicans and John McCain, while saying that he liked and respected him. All in all it was the quintessential democrat speech, thoroughly motivational, full of holes and half truths, and at least one or two omissions of the truth. It was definitely the best of three speeches we are discussing.

What can I say about Joe Biden and his speech? You got to like the guy - the poorest Senator in Washington. He is a working class guy, born in Scranton, PA, fought is way up and along the way had a failed campaign for the Presidential nomination of his party and has spent the last 30 years in the Senate where he represents the state of Delaware. Now Joe is the Vice Presidential nominee for his party, and his acceptance speech was everything you would expect to hear from him. He gave the usual Democrat speech supporting all of their pet causes, praising Hillary, her run, and how great a friendship they possess. Of course there were the pre requisite attacks against the Republicans, and John McCain, while at the same time admitting he respected McCain and called him a friend. He also swore his oath of fealty to Barack Obama, and even went so far as to say he was infinitely more qualified to be President than John McCain. A very flat speech though, so it gets the #3 spot of the Gentlemen who spoke on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Last, but most certainly not least, the anointed one - Barack Obama. Obama’s speech said everything we expected it to, from how the Democrats know better than the Republicans, to four more years under McCain is the same as the last eight years we got from the Bush administration. He said he would end the war in Iraq, and put more resources in to Afghanistan. He renewed his support for abortion rights, and universal healthcare, and the party’s energy plan. He spoke of tax cuts for the middle class, his support of organized labor, and he spoke of closing the tax loop holes for corporations who make massive windfall profits, and doing the same to small business, and entrepreneurs. He also discussed the great campaign that Hillary Rodham Clinton ran for the party Presidential nomination. Last of all, he discussed how the Republicans have it all wrong, only the Democrats know what is right, and that while John McCain might be a decorated war hero, and a patriot who loves his country, he is out of touch with the American people, and that he (Barack) is more qualified to lead the nation with his vast experience. A very well thought out and prepared speech, better than Biden’s, but not as good as Clinton's. Just like the others, it is full of holes and full of omissions of the truth. This speech is definitely #2 of the three speeches we have heard from this men in the last two days.

In closing I would just like to say, that I thought their effort to unify their party was admirable and to some extent successful. However I don’t think they made their case as well as they would have liked. I don’t think that there is as much unity as they like, and I can’t help but wonder how much their proposed utopian society is going to cost us when it comes time to pay for it. It IS going to cost, and cost at least billions of dollars. That can mean only one thing - raise taxes, and then spend the money…it’s the Democrat way.
