Well I was going to write some about the Republican Party effort to reinvent themselves and their intention to appeal to more independent, conservative democrat, and moderate Republican voters. However in recent hours leading up to the drafting of this blog post there has been an important piece of news out of the US Supreme Court. It appears that US Supreme Court Justice David Souter is due to retire from the bench in June after completing the courts business for the summer.

The information about Souter’s retirement has come to the public by means of a source inside the Supreme Court who asked to remain anonymous because the source was not authorized to speak for Justice Souter. As of yesterday evening Justice Souter had not released any statements either confirming or denying his potential retirement. It should be known though that for sometime Justice Souter has longed to return to New Hampshire and a life outside of Washington D.C.


There were many people who actually thought that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg would be the first to go especially after her fight with pancreatic cancer and the chemo that she undergoes regularly. However she has consistently stated that she plans to serve on the bench in the US Supreme Court until well into her 80’s. Justice Souter however is just 69 years of age with 19 years on the bench.

While this will be Obamas first Supreme Court appointment if Justice Souter does indeed retire it will not give the Obama administration any distinct advantage in the high court either politically or ideologically since Justice Souter is known to be one of three liberal justices that currently sit on the Supreme Court. What this means is that Obama would be replacing a sitting liberal justice with a justice of like mind.

Obamas advantage in getting his Supreme Court justice nominee confirmed is his party’s absolute power in the lower house of congress and his near filibuster proof majority in the upper house of the Senate. However there are still enough of Obamas detractors on the hill to make this potential appointment both painful and time consuming before there is a confirmed justice appointment to the Supreme Court. So what ever the outcome the status quo will remain unchanged at least for now.

Welcome back to Simple Man Politics today my friends where we are celebrating the 101st day of the Obama administration. Well maybe not celebrating so much as marking the time already spent in the White House as well as his accomplishments. Well maybe not necessarily accomplishments, but actions which are many if not necessarily change we can believe in.

I must admit he has had one hell of a first 100 days in office though, and not without some difficulty has he managed to start pushing his agenda and getting those people he feels are necessary to implement his plans in place. Of course the change we can believe in has not come without some scandal and opposition, which has not come as a surprise to some of us who are watching his Presidency take shape.

Since Obamas first day in office he has started the ball rolling on closing up Guantanamo Bay. He has also gained control of the domestic auto and financial industries. He has weakened the defense department with cuts in spending on necessary programs to have a 21st century military. Not to mention the fact Obama is now on the brink of nationalizing healthcare and education.

He has managed to do all of this stuff to the American people while using up the funds from the first stimulus package created by President Bush, and passing yet another stimulus bill with an over all price tag of over 1 billion dollars. He as also gotten his omnibus spending bill or budget passed. Even after all the spending he has done he has promised to raise the national debt by 3.5 billion in his first 20 months in office and 10 trillion over all by the end of his first term.

Also within his first 100 days in office he has failed to fill all of his cabinet positions without scandal. Tax cheats seem to be his favorite choice for nominees and appointees with the occasional pay to play figure thrown in just to mix things up. I believe that there has definitely been some sort of transparency and it is transparently obvious that the change he has promised is big government ran by thugs and criminals he pushes own the tax payers throats with his party being firmly in control in both houses of congress.

It is truly amazing to me that with all of the chaos and damage he is wreaking upon our people, economy, defense, and trust that he has managed to maintain a personal approval rating above 60% while the rest of his party has suffered immensely from low approval ratings. Of course it all depends on whose polls you believe as to whether or not his personal approval is above 60%.

I got to tell you I personally can’t wait to see what this guy tries to pull in the next 100 days it is bound to be nothing if not scandal ridden and eventful. I have to tell you though that after his first 100 days in office I’m sure he won’t be able to surprise me any more. Of course now that I have said that he just might surprise my by doing something like appointing Reverend Jeremiah Wright as the White House Chaplain, but who knows for sure.

Here’s a HUMP DAY post for you my friends and it’s about Senator Arlen Specter (R-RINO = Republican In Name Only) who is trying to hump the Republican Party by joining the Democratic Party. However this does not come as to big of a surprise to me because he sides with the Democratic Party on most issues.

Arlen Specters move to switch parties is obviously an attempt to hold on to his Pennsylvania Senate seat because he doesn’t believe that he could win in a Republican primary election against another candidate from his own party.

He realized his seat wasn’t safe after he voted against card check and didn’t get the recognition he wanted. I guess he didn’t realize that supporting President Obama’s stimulus package and budget was that unpopular within the Republican Party.

It is also not that much of a surprise to me that the Democratic Party will welcome Arlen Specter to their ranks. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) has been trying to recruit Specter for more than five years as have other high ranking Democrat Party members such as Vice President Joe Biden.

The Dem’s want Specter more than ever now considering they hold 58 seats in the Senate and almost have a filibuster proof majority. Arlen Specters membership into the Democratic Party would give them 59 seats with Minnesota still undecided and Joe Biden’s vote would be their 60th vote allowing the Democrats to possibly avoid a filibuster.

Considering the fact that I am not Republican or Democrat I can personally say that I really don’t care if Arlen Specter jumps parties or not. Yes it will be a big loss to the GOP, but I think that the GOP is better of without him. Let’s face it the Republicans could never count on his vote anyway because they never knew where he would fall on one side of an issue or another.

As far as Arlen Specters political career is concerned I don’t really believe that he has one past the 2010 mid-term elections even as a Democrat. Both houses of congress have piss poor approval ratings particularly on the Democrat sides of both congressional houses and those ratings continue to slide down further. Even a poll taken today showed Obama’s approval ratings at an all time low.

The last thing I have to say about Arlen Specters jump to the Democratic Party and his mid-term election for his Senate seat next year is it’s a good thing because now a true conservative Republican Pat Toomey will win the GOP primary vote and go on to defeat Specter or any Democratic nominee in the general election.

Today I am going to talk a little bit about the swine flu epidemic that started in Mexico and has been found both here in the US and on the European continent. As if drugs and violence are not enough now Mexico is exporting an extremely virulent strain of swine flu to the US as well as elsewhere around the world and it has the potential to become a pandemic.

Of course if you listen to the anti-illegal immigration people, the Mexican government, and some of our own on the political left including elected officials they will tell you that it is all Americas fault. I find this point of view to be extremely irresponsible because both the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and the WHO (World Health Organization) have proven that Mexico City Mexico is where the epidemic began.

I personally feel very sorry for the Mexican people and I sympathize with them for having to suffer from this very nasty infectious disease. I it s extremely unfortunate because they are also having to endure a very bloody drug war as well, which I am certain is not making their lives any easier. When you add swine flu to that, life in Mexico just sucks right now.

I will admit that right now Mexico needs all the help it can get from the US and the international community to combat this serious health issue. However I don’t think that we can help them until we do everything within our power to make sure our citizens are safe first. This means closing our southern border both in and out of the US vigorously pursuing and deporting illegal immigrants who attempt to cross into the US from Mexico and clamping down on the criminal traffic trying to cross as well.

I know that sounds kind of cold hearted and I do not mean to be, but first things first. That means we take care of our own first then we do what we can to save the world. Lets face it folks if things get real bad here it will only be worse for our neighbors to the south, the UK, and the continent of Europe. With any luck our government won’t screw this situation up any more than it already is, but considering who has been making the decisions in the US for the last 100 days I don’t have a lot of faith in our government right now to get this right.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and welcome back to another installment of Simple Man Politics. Today’s topic is going to very interesting to you all especially if you happen to be parents. The topic for today is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is a threat to parental rights.

This UN convention is an attempt by the International community to gain some legal control of the US by having our country sign on and give control of our parental and children’s rights to UN, and circumventing the US legal system. Unfortunately this is not the UN’s first attempt to accomplish some sort of control over the US it is just the latest attempt. I am also sure it will not be the last either.

I first heard about this on a popular news program. The person speaking on the topic was the founder of parentalrights.org Michael Farris. He spoke at length about this UN convention and it’s potentially sinister agenda, and said that we need a Parental Rights Amendment using a Supreme Court decision in 1925 as the basis for his argument.

After I had read the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Supreme Court decision on Piece v. Society of Sisters I can only conclude that he is absolutely correct. There are two list you need to see, one is a list of 20 things you need to know about the structure of the CRC and the other is a list of 10 things you need to know about the substance of the CRC. Here are the lists in the order I mentioned them in straight from the website parentalrights.org.

Ten things you need to know about the structure of the CRC.
1. It is a treaty which creates binding rules of law. It is no mere statement of altruism.
2. Its effect would be binding on American families, courts, and policy-makers.
3. Children of other nations would not be impacted in any direct way by our ratification.
4. The CRC would automatically override almost all American laws on children and families because of our Supremacy Clause.
5. The CRC has some elements that are self-executing, while others would require implementing legislation. Federal courts would have the power to determine which provisions were self-executing.
6. The Courts would have the power to directly enforce the provisions that are self-executing.
7. Congress would have the power to directly legislate on all subjects necessary to comply with the treaty. This would constitute the most massive shift of power from the states to the federal government in American history.
8. A committee of 18 experts from other nations, sitting in Geneva, has the authority to issue official interpretations of the treaty which are entitled to binding weight in American courts and legislatures. This effectively transfers ultimate authority for all policies in this area to this foreign committee.
9. Under international law, the treaty overrides even our Constitution.
10. Reservations, declarations, or understandings intended to modify our duty to comply with this treaty will be void if they are determined to be inconsistent with the object and purpose of the treaty.

Ten things you need to know about the substance of the CRC.
1. Parents would no longer be able to administer reasonable spankings to their children.
2. A murderer aged 17 years, 11 months and 29 days at the time of his crime could no longer be sentenced to life in prison.
3. Children would have the ability to choose their own religion while parents would only have the authority to give their children advice about religion.
4. The best interest of the child principle would give the government the ability to override every decision made by every parent if a government worker disagreed with the parent’s decision.
5. A child’s “right to be heard” would allow him (or her) to seek governmental review of every parental decision with which the child disagreed.
6. According to existing interpretation, it would be illegal for a nation to spend more on national defense than it does on children’s welfare.
7. Children would acquire a legally enforceable right to leisure.
8. Christian schools that refuse to teach "alternative worldviews" and teach that Christianity is the only true religion "fly in the face of article 29" of the treaty.
9. Allowing parents to opt their children out of sex education has been held to be out of compliance with the CRC.
10. Children would have the right to reproductive health information and services, including abortions, without parental knowledge or consent.

As a parent I am going to tell you that the last thing I want or need is some International politician or political body trying to tell me the best way to raise my children. If you look at most nations track records for maintaining law, order, and discipline with their younger generations or citizens they are not very successful, and I know I can do a much better job than 99.998% of anyone else on the planet because Poppi knows all and they are my kids.

The other problem that I have with this unveiled attempt by the UN to usurp our own authority on our own soil is that our nation’s laws are founded within our own US Constitution and Bill of Rights. I am of the belief that our laws need to be written by our own lawmakers and our Constitution strictly interpreted by the US Supreme Court, which fortunately for us has at least four Constitutionalist justices maybe even five. Unfortunately we may have a President who will sign this damned treaty.

There is definitely no good reason why we should be governed by an International body, which if I may remind them and you that without us most of them would either be speaking German or Japanese. As a result I don’t think that they are on an equal footing with us, but that may be the reason they are so hot to try to get this done, because they are not on an equal footing with us and as second class societies they never will be.

There are a lot of people making a big deal over Barack Obama shaking hands with Hugo Chavez at the 2009 Summit of the Americas not once, not twice, but three times. Considering the fact that this summit is a political event attended by the leaders of the countries in the Americas the fact that Obama has shaken hands with Chavez is not in its self diplomatically surprising.

What surprises most people and the American right in particular is the fact that Obama continued to show courtesy to a leader that has continuously spouted hate and discontent filled rhetoric about our country and it’s former President George W, Bush almost as long as Bush sat in the Oval Office.

However it should come as no surprise to anyone that Barack Obama would extend every political courtesy to Hugo Chavez a self proclaimed socialist. Barack by every definition is what some would call a European style socialist similar to those who lead France. This is not surprising considering the fact that the European model until quite recently has been very popular amongst the residents of the European socialist nations on their continent.

The difference between Obama and Chavez is that Obama believes in government control of institutions like banking and manufacturing, while still having some privately owned businesses, stock markets, and financial markets. Chavez however believes in the complete nationalization of all assets within Venezuela. These examples are the only real differences between the two leaders.

With socialist movements well under way in many Central and South American nations it is only natural that they would support a push to place the world’s lone super power into the socialist’s nation’s category.

The proof that this move is acceptable to the Obama administration is his willingness to give both our enemies and those that subscribe to the dangerous ideology of socialism an equal seat at the table when it comes to forming our nation’s policies.

I will now tell you the two ways in which we can defeat this attempt by Obama to plunge us into a world of socialism and they are both very easy ways to accomplish the defeat of these socialist policies.

First scare the hell out of your elected Senators and Representatives by making it known that if they support Obama and these policies they are out of a job when they come up for re-election and the first chance for that is the mid-term elections in 2010. The second way is to vote Obama and his administration out of office in 2012.

Oh my God what else are they going to do to weaken our nation and its security? These idiots that were so blindly voted into office under the cover of change, nominated to positions of power under the banner of change, and appointed to positions of power under the mantle of change all have one thing in common they don’t know how to defend a nation let alone run one.

All they seem to want to do is to weaken our nation even further making us an easier target for attack sooner rather than never. The inside attacks against us run the gamut from the oval office and congress to the justice department and homeland security.

I can see our enemies readying themselves at our borders to attack and salivating at the possibility of sinking their teeth into the great bastion of democracy known as the United States and killing it. The thing that amazes me is that they have as allies our own government who are doing all that they can to assist them.

Obama is looking at ways to cut defense spending in order to pay for nationalized healthcare, education, and other social programs he supports. He just won an important battle in that arena by stopping the F-22 program, which would definitely make is the ultimate power in air superiority as well as employ 90,000 + people, now the project and the jobs are gone.

Eric Holder the US Attorney General is now investigating the possibility of prosecuting AG lawyers and those who had knowledge of enhanced interrogation techniques during the Bush administration. Obama had promised no prosecutions of these people would be pursued, which was of course a lie.

This is happening again all thanks to our President who released memos stating that these attorneys found the use of these techniques legal. This does not count the damage done from releasing these memos, which now gives our enemies a look at our game plan for extracting important information from uncooperative terrorists.

Obama is also going to close the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility and attempt to bring these enemy combatants and terrorists to the continental United States. Further more he is going to have them tried in the US Federal Criminal Court System instead of by military tribunal.

All of this is dangerous to our citizenry because not only will they be within or national borders, but they will have Habeas Corpus rights and Geneva Convention protection when they are not even eligible for that protection because they are not members of a nationally recognized uniformed military.

Then there is of course our very own inept Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano. She has absolutely no idea how to even defend our borders or where exactly the dangers on our borders really are.

She is so stupid that she actually compared the US/Canadian border with the US/Mexican border stating that we needed to defend our northern border even more aggressively because that is where the 9/11 highjacker’s came into the US. That has been proven to be false by the way and it was established that the 9/11 terrorists all entered the US directly from over seas.

Further more she stated that our multi billion dollar southern border barrier that stretches from California to Texas could halt the cross border drugs and violence that is spilling over into our country from Mexico. What damn border barrier is she talking about, because we haven’t even built one quarter of it yet?

At this point I am trying to decide whether or not to brush up on my Spanish, or learn Farsi, or perhaps just do both. One thing appears almost certain to me if we manage to survive four years of an Obama administration and Democrat control of both houses of congress.

Once there is a conservative majority back in control of both of those branches of government it will take at least a generation of our citizens to recover from the damage that will be inflicted upon us. However I hope that the mid term elections partially rectify some of this problem including the deposing of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, Barney Frank, and Chris Dodd.
