For the first time in 32 years a senate seat in Massachusetts goes red for republican candidate Scott Brown. The senate seat that Scott Brown defeated democrat Martha Coakley for wasn’t just any seat either it was the late Ted Kennedy’s senate seat. I guess Scott Brown was right when he declared the senate seat the peoples seat rather than Ted’s seat, because the people sat Brown down in that seat in less than a day.

As we all know while the republicans celebrate their victory in one of the bluest/liberal states in the union the democrats are in full point the finger mode today. You have democrats in both houses of congress pointing the finger at both Coakley and the White House. Meanwhile the White House is saying that Coakley ran a shoddy campaign, while Coakley accuses the White House of not doing enough to get her elected.

In the end it I don’t think it really matters whether the White House, Obama, or Coakley were responsible for that stunning defeat for the senate seat yesterday. I think what was responsible for the loss was the fact that the radical and dangerous policies of the current administration were soundly rebuffed by the people of Massachusetts as both ineffective and too expensive. I also think that this should be a wake up call for both parties.

While it might appear that the democrats who control both houses of congress as well as the White House are the ones in trouble right now that can change fast. I believe that the peoples ire can and will turn on either party or politician who attempts to do anything that appears to both lose more jobs or result in higher taxes. Unfortunately I don’t believe that the American voters are quite finished with the democratic party just yet.

I personally believe that the fallout from the Obama' agenda has not yet ended. I think that people like senate majority leader Harry Reid, congressman Barney Frank, and maybe even house speaker Nancy Pelosi may be in jeopardy of losing their seats in the 2010 mid term elections in November. I would have thought the same thing about senator Chris Dodd, but he is wisely not seeking reelection. I personally hope that I am right about this.

I wonder how the healthcare bill is going to fare now with the 41st vote against it being elected last night. There are still a couple things that the democrats might do to try to pass a bill before Brown is seated. However I don’t think it will happen because so many democrats are now going into CMA mode after last night. I some how don’t think that the cap and trade bill is going anywhere now as well.

That is all for now from Simple Man Politics my friends, but I will be back again with more politics as soon as something else new happens, or you request that I write about a particular topic. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and a terrific week, CIAO4NOW!!!!!

Hmmmm lets see what makes a good United States Supreme Court Justice? I’m sure there are lots of qualities that we can think of that would go into making an excellent Supreme Court Justice pick. We see a lot of these extraordinary qualities in many federal and state judges all around the country although Supreme Court Justices are generally chosen from the ranks of federal judges or those who have practiced before the Supreme Court.

I think the foremost quality I would look for in a Supreme Court Justice is someone with a razor sharp knowledge of the US Constitution; yep that’s a good start. Another excellent quality would be someone who is a constitutionalist who would strictly interpret the constitution and the laws that are governed by this invaluable document. I also think another excellent quality in a justice would be the ability to be an impartial observer as well as a fair justice who uses the US Constitution as his or hers only guideline for passing judgment.

Unfortunately these qualities are not always evident in justices to those who have an opinion that runs counter to that of a particular jurist. A large part of this problem exists on a purely ideological level considering some of the topics that the SCOTUS has to rule on with ever increasing frequency. Topics like Roe v Wade and the 2nd Amendment just to name a couple of those hot button issues off the top of my head.

Then of course there is the problem that is associated with political party partisanship. This problem inevitably occurs every time there is a Supreme Court Nomination to be made. If the President making the nomination is a Republican he attempts to seat a conservative justice and if he is a Democrat he attempts to seat a liberal justice. The reason for this of course is that he wants the justice he picks to have opinions similar to his own.

Of course with a Supreme Court Justice seat being a lifetime appointment these justices will influence the SCOTUS and its opinions for decades potentially. That is at the heart of what makes these nominations so vehemently contested especially by those whose party does not represent the sitting President. Of course the President and his party try to push their nominees through every bit as hard as those fighting against the nominee.

Some of the biggest battles in seating these nominees are trying to find one who does not believe that the SCOTUS should legislate from the bench because they are the Judicial Branch and not the Legislative Branch of our government. Another big battle and the one that is currently brewing in the nomination process is the battle against racism on the bench.

At this time in our history our current President has had a chance to nominate a replacement for sitting Justice David Souter with another whose judicial views are similar to or maybe even more liberal than Souter’s and this nominees name is Sonia Sotomayor a Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and the first Hispanic female to ever be nominated although not the first Hispanic nominated.

The current battle against her nomination stems from her statement supporting policy making from the SCOTUS by saying that policy is made all of the time on the appeals level. Another battle being waged against her nomination is because of an apparent racist statement that she made in which she said that a Latina female justice would make better judicial decisions than a white male justice because they would be unable to relate to the regular people who are the ones that the SCOTUS is supposed to protect. As always the battle against judicial activism will be fought on this nomination.

Now I will be honest with you and tell you that I would not support her for the simple reason that I fervently disagree with her notion that government policy is made on any federal judicial bench whether it be in federal circuit court, federal appeals court, or the SCOTUS. No justices are sworn in as legislators they are sworn in as judges or justices. As for the Latina female versus white male statement it may be racism in reverse and is certainly ignorant at the least.

As always I will tell you that it is up to you to do your own research and decide what you believe about this nominee. And as always all I can do is tell you the facts as I know them and my very educated opinion on the topics I write about. I hope all of you do take the time to read the things I write and decide if you like the direction our country is moving in and if it is where you want to go.

I hope you all have a fantastic day and I will see you all again tomorrow CIAO4NOW!!!!!

Today’s topic of conversation is the infamous congressman of the Pennsylvania T John Murtha (D-Pa). An individual who served with honor in the United States Marine Corp during wartime and has been a constant political figure on capitol hill for more than 30yrs although lately the shine has kind of worn off this piece of obsolete political machinery.

No one can say that good ole John ever lacked for something to say publicly and I am sure he likes to court controversy. You only have to look as far back as the Iraq War during the 2nd Bush term to see that.

At that time John Murtha made a statement that would come back to haunt him and what he said was that US Marines were responsible for killing innocent women and children out of bloodlust, which was definitely an incendiary remark.

He has since followed up the last nonsensical remark with another one. Now he tells Obama and congress that his district and his constituents are more than willing to have the 241 Guantanamo detainees in Pennsylvania. A comment for which is no support for him from within his district.

Everyone also knows that Mr. Murtha can soak up pork barrel funds like no one else. His latest project is the local airport in his district, which is named after him. After some concerns about a project there the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) would be releasing the $800,000 in stimulus funds for the Johnstown, Pa airport project.

It also appears that Rep Murtha doesn’t much care for being challenged for his congressional seat either. In 2008 Republican Bill Russell who is himself an Iraqi War veteran was threatened by Murtha who told him he would have him recalled to active duty and court-martialed for engaging in politics, which is illegal to do. Russell was not on active duty at the time.

Another subject involving Murtha’s abuse of his political power comes at the expense of his own nephew Robert Murtha Jr who owns Murthech. Rep Murtha saw to it that his nephew received over 4 million dollars in pentagon work without competition. John must pride himself on his ability to use nepotism without a guilty conscience when it involves the tax payer’s money.

I guess it doesn’t matter to John Murtha who he slanders, what he steals, or who he runs over in his never ending quest to maintain his power although it is dwindling. I was also happy to hear that Bill Russell will run for Murtha’s seat in 2010 maybe he can send this political dinosaur to the bone yard for good the next time.

The important thing to remember here though my friends is that it doesn’t matter what side of the aisle that 99.998% of these politicians sit on either Democrat or republican they virtually all crave one thing and that is power. I just happened to pick John Murtha as an example.

That is it for now but I will be back again on Friday with the T.G.I.F. post. I hope you all have a great day today CIAO4NOW!!!!!

Yayyyyyyyyyyy it’s over…..NOT!!!!! Finally after months of court battles, recounting absentee ballots, recounting bad ballots, as well as recounting all of the ballots Al Franken has finally been named the winner of the Minnesota Senate race that has been going on since November 4th, 2008.

Not so fast though, incumbent Republican Senator Norm Coleman is ready to challenge this latest decision that attempts to place another Democrat in the Senate. Personally I like Norm Coleman, because he seems to be a very straight forward and stand up guy. I also think he should be the sitting Senator because he won the original Senate race for his seat on the night of November 4th.

I will be totally honest here to I really do despise Democratic challenger Al Franken, and the list of reasons is long, but here are a few of them for you to ponder. First off Franken is one of those way far out to the left loons that touts every insane unproven lie that is on the socialist Democrat agenda like Global Warming.

His also a failed radio personality for the failed liberal radio organization known as Air America. This media outlet was so bad that they never even had any audience of any kind, because they had no credibility. That is not a surprise though considering they had radio personalities like Al Franken and Janeane Garafalo. The only thing that ever sustained this mess of a media outlet was the millions of dollars that billionaire George Soros kept dumping into it.

Last but not least Al Franken is the least funniest and failed comedian/actor on the planet. I cannot think of one thing he has done in his comedic or acting career that was ever worth remembering. The only thing that has ever even been remotely successful for the guy at least financially was a couple of tripe filled books that he wrote, and of course only the far left dummies bought those. My God this guy is such a weenie.

However I think that enough is enough, and it is about time to put this debacle known as a senate race to bed once and for all. If Norm Coleman loses this court challenge he should step away and run against Franken in the next senate election in 2012. After Franken proves to the constituents in his district that he is such a BOOB Coleman will be a shoo in.

Well ya’ll that’s my rant for today, but I will be back again tomorrow CIAO4NOW!!!!!
